I don’t gamble very often
Because I know how difficult it is
To part with hard-earned money.

Every once in a while, though,
I like to play Blackjack.

They say a fool and his money
Are soon departed
And it’s no different for me,
A sunny soul with a sparkle
In his eyes who sees
The money leave more quickly
Than it arrives.

I don’t know what it is
About seeing the Jack nestled
Intimately next to an Ace
But that rush, it’s terrific.

The infrequent Blackjack
Doesn’t take the sting away
From having lost
A bunch of money,
But as all things happen in life
Good things come
And go.

They mostly go.

But hey, you know what?
If the gambling doesn’t work out
There’s always tons
Of cheap whiskey
At the casino.
