It’s no coincidence
In my mind, at least,
That the roar of the El train
Coming to take me home
Sounds exactly like the rush
Of water against water
Slapping all the way up
Against the shoreline.

After a long and weary day
Of sitting at the office
Staring at the sky
It’s nice to at least imagine
The sound of ocean air
When I’m deep underground.

Two separate elements:
Water against water
Metal against metal

But when the train comes
Or when the water comes
Both are there
To carry me home.
